SUMMIT, N.J. - Edwin R. Matthews
received a 2010 Professional Lawyer of the Year Award presented by the
New Jersey Commission on Professionalism in the Law at its Annual Awards
Luncheon on Wednesday, October 6, 2010 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in
New Brunswick, New Jersey.
The New Jersey Professional Lawyer
of the Year award is presented in cooperation with bar associations
across the state, to lawyers whose character, competence, and commitment
to the highest professional standards mark them as outstanding members
of the bar. Mr. Matthews, a Certified Civil Trial Attorney, is a partner in the Summit law firm of Bourne,
Noll & Kenyon where he heads the firm's litigation practice. He is a
past president of the Trial Attorneys of New Jersey and has served on
its Board of Trustees for over 20 years. In addition to his
participation on a number of committees of various bar associations, Mr.
Matthews has lectured frequently at seminars on trial tactics, product
liability, rules of procedure, and rules of evidence. He is a Master of
the Worrall F. Mountain Inn of Court and has been an adjunct faculty
member of the Seton Hall University School of Law and has served as a
Master in its Inn of Court.
A lifelong resident of South
Orange, Mr. Matthews' community activities have included service on the
Township's governing body, as its Municipal Court Judge, as its
Municipal Attorney and as a member of its Juvenile Conference
Committee.
The New Jersey Commission on
Professionalism and the Law is a cooperative venture among the New
Jersey State Bar Association, the State and Federal Judiciaries and the
three New Jersey Law Schools - Seton Hall Law School, Rutgers-Newark Law
School and Rutgers-Camden Law School. The New Jersey Commission on
Professionalism in the Law seeks to enhance the spirit
professionalism and commitment to traditional values among lawyers and
judges in New Jersey through educational programs and related
initiatives. |
